The Roman road that led past the Castle was named the "Road of the Fairies" and this remains a romantic resort style of Napoleon III kept a typical architecture of the Loire Valley with great finesse.
The President of the Court of Appeal of Angers Charles Cyr Bourcier Retailleau built it in 1852 on the ruins of a medieval castle destroyed during the Vendée wars.
